Alicia Robinson, the creator of AGR, investigates optical illusions for the Autumn/Winter 2022 season. This collection is a multicoloured offering intended to push the boundaries of knitwear’s possibilities in the most opulent of ways.
In the recent collection, AGR‘s hallmarks are taken to new heights; with references to trompe l’oeil, sixteenth-century Italian ‘Bargello’ needlepoints, and vintage illustrated knitting books from the 1970s, continuing its original approach. Featuring a variety of outfits that ingeniously combine print with knit methods – from pixelated cable-knit on top of Jacquard to printing designs on denim and nylon. Additionally, spray knit patterns from Autumn/Winter ’21 have been refined, digitised, and printed on cotton and wool.
Colours are eye-catching, with bits of darker tones in line with AGR’s design aesthetic. Certain items, such as the Jacquard hoodie, have up to eight colours and, when taken apart, expose a deeper underbelly that adds depth to the vivid palette. In addition to the brand’s signature lime green, vivid magenta, and yellows, blue colours from the spectrum may be seen throughout.
Nods to the ’90s remain evident with new designs and accessories, remaining faithful to the brand’s key DNA. Faux-fur coats in scrumptious colours have been introduced, as having cropped diamanté baby T-shirts that encircle the brand’s trademark insignia. Form-fitting skirts and shirts flatteringly cling to the body in the most luminous of psychedelic gradients, ideal for our beloved East London raves.
