Lorna’s bite – If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food and don’t mind making the trek to Peckham (trust me it’s well worth it) you’ll find yourself in for a night of spice, seafood and Taquiza’s tasty-as-f*ck Tacos! As for what I’d suggest ordering from the menu, the fried squid, fish taco and king prawn Tostada washed down with one of their signature cocktails.
Izzy’s bite – Located opposite the overground Tequiza is a sister to The Carpet Shop in Peckham and provides some amazing Mexican deliciousness! I went with the sour cocktail made with egg whites and liquor – was super foamy and drinkable considering I’m not a huge alcohol fan. For the meal I was a big fan of the octopus starter and for the tacos I opted for the Pork and Beef. They recommended two per person but as per usual I walked away with a doggy bag.
Lorna’s bite – As someone who’s been trying to go plant-based for months (and failing miserably), finding a restaurant like Neat Burger, with their banging menu and grab-a-quick-bite energy, was a breath of fresh air. I tried a little bit of everything from the Smash Burger (which, fair warning, is extremely filling) to the Hummus & Baked Pita Chips, but if I had to recommend one thing, it’d be the Hot Buffalo Chick’n Nuggets with ranch dressing.
Izzy’s bite – As a avid carnivore who really does try to limit my animal product intake (and usually fails), Neat Burger was a massive step into the world of eating green and actually enjoying it! I chose the classic burger with my favourite curly fires, although my eyes were too big for my belly. I washed it down with one of the most refreshing frozen cocktails which left a zesty linger on my tongue for hours after, it was delicious!
Lorna’s bite – As far as underground beer gardens go, Birdhouse Brewery has the gritty vibe nailed. Nestled down a side street in Herne Hill, the venue’s red aura, exposed brewery at the back of the bar and live DJs make it a prime spot for a cosy sesh with your mates for anyone who happens to be in the area this summer.
Izzy’s bite – If you like craft beers and burgers then you are going to be chuffed with an after work link-up at Bird House Brewery. Cooking fresh burgers, fries and specials out of a van in the rustic hidden alleyway near Herne Hill station, the venue provides a easy go-to choice if you are in the area and want a lil drink, bite to eat and network.
