Broke Magazine’s Guide To Brunch Electronik 2024

Ring ring… It’s Barcelona on the phone!

Brunch Electronik is calling our Broke-ass names to come and scope out the next edition of its mega beats and sun-soaked beaches, so naturally, we’ve been having a hard graft and massive nosey into what to expect from the next chapter of this festival as it moves on from a successful 2023 debut (which might we add, looked like an absolute rager). This year, Brunch Electronik is showcasing an insane lineup of more than 80 names, encrusted with the finest techno, house and hybrid of the two from god-tier DJ/Producers including Dom Dolla, Fatboy Slim and one we’re especially buzzing for, The Blaze.

Aside from the festival’s impeccable music taste, their three fundamental values of community, equality and sustainability are another reason we f*ck with them, offering a wide range of mini motives amongst the madness, food stalls, art installations and mysterious entertainment offerings will be happening across the weekend to keep you and your mates stimulated during those much-needed zen moments.

Located in the idyllic-meets-industrial Parc Del Fòrum, hosting five stages along Barcelona’s beachfront, this city festival promises a completely unique party experience for us ravers with impeccable music, scenes and atmosphere. We plan on sippin’ margaritas on the sand while listening to our current favourites like Pawsa… While we could ramble on all day about the bits we’re gassed for, before we pack our bags and hop on a plane to get down to some groovy tunes as the sun sets along the Spanish horizon (hope to see ya there!), we’ve put together a guide of the best sets to catch at this year’s Brunch Electronik (pre-warning, there’s a BUNCH)…

FRIDAY

DEBORAH DE LUCA

Hailing from the gritty streets of Naples’ Scampia district, Deborah’s journey from nightclub dancer to global techno titan is an inspiring story. Known for her fierce beats and relentless hustle, she’s not just spinning tracks; she’s smashing stereotypes. With her label, Sola_mente Records, this self-made powerhouse has been dropping bangers since 2013, crafting a soundscape free from all the noise. Her debut album ‘Ten’ was a decade-defining masterpiece, but trust us, she’s just warming up. Deborah’s sets are a high-octane mix of raw energy and hypnotic rhythms, guaranteed to make this festival a straight-up rave.

GOLFOS (DENNIS CRUZ & PAWSA)

We already knowww this is gonna be our favourite set of the weekend, we’ve been gagging to see Pawsa live for time now (the duo honestly have us drooling to every drop) and with them going B2B with Dennis Crus for a Golfos set (their party and record label project from two leading names in the underground house and techno community) we’re expecting some lip bobblin’ beats and bangers that’ll have us going “oh my god yes” all round.

HELENA HAUFF

Helena Hauff enters the chat for this year’s Brunch festival, the analog alchemist and electro-techno priestess who’s we have eye on to shake up the weekend. This Hamburg native crafts gritty, hard-edged anthems straight from the depths of an industrial rave. With a love for acid house and EBM, her sound is a kaleidoscope of raw energy and hypnotic beats. Known for her one-take analog recordings, Helena’s sets are like time machines back to the golden days of underground electronica.

LEN FAKI

Len Faki who we have mentioned in our Weekly Web Wrap-Ups is set to bring his Berghain-honed magic to Barcelona and mate are we fookin’ ready! The Berlin-based DJ, producer, and label wizard has been a cornerstone of the global techno scene since Berghain’s inception, and his sets are legendary—think audio-visual rollercoaster with a splash of mind-bending euphoria. Whether he’s dropping cult classics or fresh bangers from his labels Figure and Podium, Len’s all about delivering a raw, passionate experience.

NIGHTMARES ON WAX

With 30 years of music alchemy under his belt, George Evelyn AKA Nightmares in Wax, continues to defy genres and expectations. Wanna know his vibe? A heady concoction of electronica, jazz, hip-hop, dub, funk, soul, and yes, even a sprinkle of techno for the groovers. “I feel like I’ve been set free of something and I am now becoming who I really am,” he says. We are expecting to lose ourselves in the soulful beats and philosophical musings of an artist who’s been setting dance floors (and minds) ablaze for decades.

SATURDAY

THE BLAZE

To prep for this particular set, we’ll be sparking a zoot, positioning ourselves firmly at the front of the decks and pressing ourselves against the speakers sucking up every drop of sound the Blazer has to offer. We’ve been listening to this melodic-electronic duo since their first release of ‘Virile’ and eight years later will finally get to witness their soul-touching tunes live (to say we’re gassed would be an understatement).

DOM DOLLA

We’ve been waiting to catch a Dom Dolla set live almost as long as he took to release Rhyme Dust (iykyk lmao) so big up Electronik Brunch for helping us tick another must-see-live artist off our extensive list! We’ve come across plenty of his sets on socials and can honestly say have never seen a bad one, so ofc can’t wait to be part of the crowd experiencing it next weekend.

JAYDA G

Hailing from Canada but now a proud Londoner, the renowned “Both Of Us” creator Jayda G has got that rare magic to turn any set into a euphoric memory. With a Masters in Environmental Toxicology (yep, she’s a killer whale protector too!), she’s as brainy as she is talented. Her DJ skills capture her soulful essence perfectly. We are gonna be glued to her set—it’s gonna be one to cherish for a lifetime!

FATBOY SLIM

Apologies in advance for nudging our way to the front of the decks for this one, but if we don’t see the king of ’90s rave culture up close when “right here, right now” starts pumping outta Brunch Electronik’s speakers, we genuinely might pop. Anyone who can relate, find us there and join us for a boogie to his old-school tunes!

SALUTE

Salute is one DJ we won’t be missing, after watching his rise over the past year from a mental Melbourne Boiler Room, teaming up with Broke favourites including a B2B with Joy Anonymous (that we’ll never recover from not witnessing in person) and a collab with Piri, it’s about damn time we witness his vibe live.

TRYM

If you’re heading to Brunch Electronik in search of heavy techno with a twist, make sure you’re in the crowd for this one! TRYM is incapable of delivering a bad drop, building up anticipation with tickling tunes before rippling the most pulse-quickening collection of beats across a venue (it’d be silly not to stop by).

JOHN DIGWEED

John Digweed is like the godfather of progressive house and techno. Hailing from the UK but globally renowned, his sets are like deep dives into the soul of underground dance culture. From dropping iconic mixes like “Renaissance” with Sasha to scoring films like “Stark Raving Mad,” he’s done it all with a vibe. Resident advisor says “John Digweed has become the people’s choice while maintaining his longstanding presence in underground dance culture. His popularity as both a dj and a person seems to have no limits, but his efforts transcend dj’ing alone, he is as much a producer and promoter.”
