If you are in the LGBTQ+ scene, you’ll have clocked on that As One Festival took place at Walpole Park in West London a few weeks back for a day of gay delight. They brought together the whole community for a day of pride, diversity, and entertainment, offering tickets at an affordable price of £20! Us Brokerz love a good time and a great deal, so this festival was for sure one we weren’t gonna miss.
Headlining the main stage was Hannah Wants, a self-taught DJ known for her deep, tech, and rolling bass-driven sounds. Fresh off her new single “I Just Can’t Get Enough,” Hannah delivered a high-energy set that kept the crowd boppin. Her experience from performing at events like Coachella and EDC Vegas was evident as she seamlessly mixed classic and contemporary tracks. Joining her to headline was Absolute, who brought his “big neon energy” to the stage. During the festival he showed off his talent for blending electronic and house music, the set was a highlight, reflecting his work as a musical director and DJ.
The festival also featured notable UK drag performances from Drag Race and beyond. Danny Beard, the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season Four, entertained with a mix of high fashion and humour. We got to check out the performer’s very own backstage portaloo for a chinwag about everything gay and glitz. My gosh does Danny know their way around a temporary toilet? Known for their work on BBC Radio 1 and the podcast The Gossip Gays, Danny’s performance was a standout, blending classic drag with modern elements. Danny wore multiple outfits but the standout was the black jumpsuit with red encrusted gems – what a slay!
Baga Chipz also brought some proper British energy to the stage, bringing her trademark humour and personality. Smoking like a chimney she told us how she had been performing for 15 years and knew the scene inside and out. We spent the majority of the afternoon laughing out loud with Bagga and Danny – something that we Brokerz will cherish for a lifetime is to be able to be silly and stupid with some top-quality British drag icons.
Alongside them were other drag performers like Amy Laqueefa, Flesh And Bones, and Smiley Vyrus, who added variety and flair to the festival’s drag lineup. With a focus on supporting local talent, the event provided a platform for emerging artists and performers. The festival’s accessibility and welcoming atmosphere made it a space for everyone to express themselves.
As One In was honestly more than just music and drag. It was a total celebration of the campy LGBTQ+ community. As the day ended, it was clear that it had successfully established itself as a meaningful addition to London’s summer events. The festival brought together music, drag, and community, creating a memorable experience for all who attended.
