Last weekend us Brokerz decided to take a road trip to Mersea Island. Now we were only going that far for one and one reason only…. Secret Island Festival baby! But don’t be fooled, this festival is located in the quiet countryside we were so ready to escape London and party hard. With this being their fourth year running, this time round they had Over 50 artists that performed on the island all ranging from all different genres.
Secret Island Festival gave their attendees a little bit of everything to tickle their ears. They served us disco, house, DnBand even a chill out stage featuring a mixture of dub, reggae and ambient sounds for all you chilled out babes. Some of the artists we couldn’t wait to groove and skank too were Legendary Drum and Bass heavy weights DJ hype and DJ Hazard! And my favourite gals Lulah Francs and Scarlett O’Malley gave us the best energetic dance tracks.
From walking into the festival to leaving it, Secret island festival didn’t miss a beat and smashed it for their atmosphere all day we were so relaxed and happy (even after skanking in the rough tempo tent for hours). We loved to see such a wide range of ages and communities at the festival, we saw so many families and groups of friends that created such a unique community feel. With this being an independent and self-funded event, it was so great to see them supporting local businesses and performing opportunities to local artists!
Now once I walked into that Drum N Bass tent. I found my haven. I was captured by all the chopped up beats and Heavy baselines, I was moshed into the crowd trying to keep up to the fast bpms and rhythms being dropped. Rough tempo graced us with some of the hardest artists like Kleu Arcane and Dope Ammo who were accompanied by some naughty MCs. The crowd in the Rough tempo tent was electric and if there was 20 or 100 people dancing, the chaotic energy never left!
Still going crazy in the Rough tempo tent! I had to be pulled out but thank god I did as I was not planning on missing Lulah Francs! I saw her play before and she won my heart. Known for her different range of electronic elements, she played us a whole mix of the best disco, Nu-disco, Italo and breaks beats. With her energy and beats it was hard not to summon a crowd to the light house stage and she kept them grooving!
After Lulahs set came on Scarlett O’Malley and she knew what we wanted!! Playing enthusiastic House and club beats to the crowd, and mixing jazzy and soulful elements. She filled up the light house stage full of energy and groovy beats!
Then of course…Shock we ended our night at the Rough Tempo tent partying with all we had left in our body, to those legends in the drum n bass and jungle scene Dj Hype and Dj hazard who dominated the dance floor with beats full of adrenaline that the crowd worshipped.
