Jen Berkova‘s new single ‘Adventure Time‘ is out today, and she’s brimming with effervescent beats and funk-filled tones. Jen’s depth filled vocals delve into the sea of rhythm, establishing a location for her hopeful-yet-heartbreaking lyrical to live, merging R&B pulsations and soothing afro-fusion synth jams.
Centring around the feeling of being trapped inside, where home walls know everything, this track has arrived for those also with bigger aspirations, akin to Jen. Speaking on ‘Adventure Time’ she explains; “Adventure time was created out of pure boredom. With nothing but the walls of my home, I was left to imagine adventures, trips, romance and beyond. This track was soo fun to create. When people listen, I hope it can spark excitement to live in the present and dream big.”
Jen’s music is influenced by a wide range of cultural influences and experiences. She was born in Paris to Russian and Congolese parents and reared in Oxford. Amid a very contemporary R&B revival movement, tiny nods to other female singers such as Jorja Smith, Lianna La Havas, and Izzy Bizu peek through.
This artist’s visions are brought to life in an official music video, which will accompany her poetic journey of a lifetime. The video portrays Jen’s dissatisfaction with her day-to-day routine, with colourful ’90s-inspired images. Jen, evoking the escapism that comes with every vacation, flips through TV stations in search of some much-needed pleasure. ‘Adventure Time’ imagines storylines ranging from rash decisions to romancing, travelling, and having a get-up-and-go attitude.
Jen has a glowing reputation on stage, and she has numerous more live performances under her credit, including her headline act The Mad Hatter, in addition to taking part in Truck Festival, Down At The Abbey Festival and Are You Listening? Performing at the festivals alongside other international stars such as Lewis Capaldi, Foals and Wolf Alice.
“Since my last single and especially during the lockdown, I’ve been taking time to build my sound. I realised I have a deep passion for creating heartfelt lyrics but adding a serious groove to them. I’ve been performing lots with my band and collectively working with my producer to blend a mix of R&B, afro-fusion and pop,” Jen mentions.
