Friday night Hannah Laing had her first headline show in London and brought her ‘Welcome to the Doof tour’ to village underground. Broke Magazine asked me to check it out and there was no other answer than ‘yes!’. So if you’re reading, put on ‘Good Love’ and immerse yourself into my night at village underground.
I think I am not the only one who can say they’re Hannah Laing obsessed, The Queen of house has had us all under her thumb with an unstoppable trajectory of banging house and techno tracks. Dundee born-and-raised Dj and producer has been heavily indulged into the music scene since she was 15, now taking over the hottest venues to create and collaborating the naughtiest anthems in this generation. So to have the privilege to not only see this legendary women perform but to actually meet such a genuine, passionate and truly talented musician! I was buzzing for my night ahead.
Once I stepped into the venue I headed straight to the bar and If you’ve read my write up before you know I am ordering a white claw. I got my cameras out and grooved to be behind the decks. We turned up about an hour before Hannahs set to get a taste of the energy for the night ahead, where there was no disappointment, the venue was packed and you could feel the excitement ready for Hannah’s presence.
Throughout her setlist Hannah played a kaleidoscope of mixes from hard house to high energy trance tracks and bringing in her classic inspiration of 90s dance music. She kept all of us on our toes from dropping dirty basslines to playing her iconic melodic tunes like ‘party all the time’ (which these lyrics have been ingrained in my brain since 2am Friday night!). I saw the crowd go absolutely wild when this tune was played. I needed to immerse myself in the pit of euphoric dancing. Hannah brought in such a diverse community of ravers Friday night, The crowd radiated the best energy, groups of women eating up the dance floor to fans coming all the way from America and Scotland repping flags in the crowd!
Hannah’s infectious buzz for music and dance culture took over the atmosphere of the venue, she made this event space her home and made the crowd feel like they were partying with her all night, which I think I can speak for everyone on that dance floor. Nobody was ready to leave.
It was my first time seeing Hannah Laing play, and it was truly a set to remember! Her bouncing dance music created a special night and like I told her in-person “it was f*cking sick!” So if you have the chance to witness this icon spinning dirty tunes at her ‘Welcome to the Doof tour’ take it or you’ll be missing out big time.
Honestly the best rave I have ever been to! Hannah Laing is absolutely amazing 🤩 x
