Following on from the critically lauded singles “IRIDESCENT,” “DON’T MAKE ME GO HOME NOW,” “GONE,” and most recently the elegant “BURN ME ALIVE,” emerging UK singer and producer Humble the Great delivers his highly anticipated debut album BLOODSHOT.
Humble the Great has built a project that blends nostalgia and the cutting-edge by combining organic production with his inherent musicianship. Textured, layered harmonies take centre stage on songs like “GONE.” and “LET ME DOWN,” which feature newcomer Rashad, as Humble tests his range by flowing from falsetto and back into smouldering lower tones.
Humble pulls influence from numerous genres to push the limits of his own sound on tracks like “THE PEAK/FLOATING AWAY” and lead single “FLIGHT.” “FLIGHT” blends classic jazz with contemporary production to deliver a smoky, backroom jazz vibe, as he expertly handles the nuances of smooth guitar riffs and tight harmonies, fusing an array of sounds to compose a sophisticated yet mellow signature, expertly mixing soundscapes in an example of controlled, visionary music-making. Humble’s brand of chilled R&B floats across the whole record with a polish beyond his years, making it a tremendously confident and fresh debut.
Opening up about the EP, Humble says: “This project covers the varied, crazy emotions I was feeling over the last year and a half. I made pretty much all of this project in my living room, just on my laptop or in my bed – struggling to sleep whilst I quit smoking – hence ‘BLOODSHOT’. Every song for me represents a different emotion felt during that time.”
As part of a thriving London collective of emerging talent alongside the likes of KWAYE, Maxi Millz, Kate Stewart, TS Graye and more, the likes of Tiffany Calver’s attendance at his recent project listening party last week underlines the waves he’s making as his milestone 2022 continues.
