Hypnotic, Raw & Vulnerable New Album From Cashma

Cashma is an R&B singer from the little town of Barnesville, Georgia. She is the sole child of a black father and a white mother, grew up witnessing both sides of the world and frequently felt as if she didn’t fit in. Seeking refuge in the music of one of her greatest influences, Sade, she eventually learned how to be unabashedly herself, and her music reflects that. Moving to Atlanta at an early age, the contemplative introvert has already established her own place and voice.

Her new album Purple Apartment is the result of having her own place to live authentically and to focus and craft her music. Cashma confides, “I’m very introverted so having my own space has always been really important to me. My home is my world. It’s where I party, relax, feel safe, laugh, cry, cook, enjoy my friends, do business and overall where I’ve built my brand. I wanted this project to feel the way I do when I’m in my space, a getaway from the noises of the world. A little piece of heaven.”

Purple Apartment, created in collaboration with producer Mike Kalombo, is infused with a nostalgic 80’s feel. The album’s foundations are silky, soulful vocals, shimmering synthesisers, and vibey, captivating tunes, with Cashma exhibiting her velvet voice tone and ability to create decadent R&B classics.

Purple Apartment is the third piece of her purple trilogy, which also includes Purple Mosquito in 2020 and PURPLE LIGHTS in 2021. The final album in the trilogy has the artist pushing herself, to be honest, and vulnerable with her emotions. The modest 12-track collection is based on love. Self-esteem. The love of the present. Love for someone you’re getting to know and want to spend all of your time with. The songstress reveals, “I like writing what my soul tells me. It’s therapy. I let my spirit guide me on feeling. That’s what matters to me.”

Listening to the record is like reading Cashma’s personal journal entries. She tells anecdotes from her own life, such as “My First Apartment,” about the conflicting emotions of being alone for the first time, and “I Dress For Me,” about disregarding other people’s judgmental attitudes. Her honest storytelling lyrics provide a window into her life, establishing a close bond between the artist and her fans.

Cashma is fast becoming an artist to watch, with a passionate audience of people all around the world and over half a million listens for her work thus far.
