Indie rock duo Guyville sing their hearts out in “Boys + Girls W Guitars”

Guyville’s single “Boys + Girls W Guitars” has been unleashed, and we are obsessed with their current breakthrough sound. “Boys + Girls W Guitars” is a fascinating auditory trip that features clever lyrics, attractive melodies, and gritty pop-rock textures.

Guyville is a Los Angeles-based combo consisting of Kat Hamilton and Emily Hulslander. The duo writes songs that blend aspects of 90s rock, pop, and Americana. As their name suggests, the legacy of Liz Phair brought these two powerful women together in songwriting bliss. With Hulslander’s intellectual pop approach and Hamilton’s candid poetry, the combo hits the sweet spot.

Guyville was created during a typical Los Angeles Valley writing session. The seamless flow and chemistry between the two prolific authors was and still is, remarkable. The couple had penned their debut song, “Should’ve Never Dated,” in a matter of hours…

Emily Hulslander had already built a reputation for herself in LA songwriting circles, but she was having difficulty finding another writer with whom she could relax in the process.

Kat Hamilton was a newcomer to Los Angeles, yet she felt dissatisfied as a writer. Emily and Kat discovered common ground on that important day in their broken relationships, artistic pursuits, and 90s women.

This bond is emphasised in their debut Guyville track, “Nothing.” The end-of-summer song blends elements of indie rock, 90s girl anthems, and Shania Twain. “Nothing” praises the delightful sensation of having done nothing for your ex after a split. The duo revel in rose gardens and dance along sandy beaches in the music video and the end effect is a cheerful, witty hymn to getting over it and moving on.

In “Boys + Girls W Guitars”, the duo were inspired to create a song about “constantly repeating the habit of sleeping with musicians just because they’re talented,” confides Kat. She further shares, “I think it’s easy in the music world to confuse admiration with attraction.” The song showcases witty lyrics, charming melodies and gritty pop-rock soundscapes for an intriguing sonic journey.

Guyville has received recognition from Rolling Stone India, Earmilk, Atwood Magazine, and others. They are also set to embark on a tour next month which includes shows across the US.
