Kalpee, the multi-faceted Caribbean musician, collaborates with fellow award-winning Trinidad Producer Precision and platinum-selling UK production Jay Moe of Da Beatfreakz to bring the tropics to the airwaves with his Soca and Dancehall Remixes.
Kalpee continues on the explosive success of the captivating song ‘Island Gyal,’ which was a bewitching hit for its soulful melodies and contemporary synthesis of Calypso, dancehall, and reggae rhythms. Da Beatfreakz’s catchy version of the track kicks off the remixes, with a snappy, uplifting dancehall groove raising sun-kissed piano, subsequently supported by captivating string stabs that propel the explosive remix onward.
Having worked with the likes of Giggs, N-Dubz, Chris Brown and Sean Paul, DBF has been gifting the UK scene with fresh sounds for over 15 years and this ‘Island Gyal Dancehall Remix’ sees their experience shine through, in a lively, beach-ready, dancehall remix led by Jay Moe for DBF.
On the creation of ‘Island Gyal Dancehall Remix’, DBF say, “we loved working with Kalpee. His talent is crazy, and it’s been a blessing working with him and his team”
Trinidad & Tobago-based producer Precision Productions is a well-known music company created by Kasey Phillips. Precision has a strong following in Soca, Dancehall, Reggae, Pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop. Precision Island Gyal Soca Remix is easy to listen to. The remix’s seductive vocal edits infuse the tune with a sense of pleasure and bliss as Precision cleverly combines aspects of numerous genres into his characteristic Soca sound.
Of ‘Island Gyal Soca Remix’, Precision said, “the Island Gyal Soca Remix brings that carnival energy for all waistlines and able bodies to get set for the road and take centre stage! “
These remixes give ‘Island Gyal’ a new coat of paint, bringing additional sounds from the Islands to the table and having unrivalled intensity in their creations, loaded with seductive rhythms and colourful compositions, paving the way for the summer of 2022.
Of ‘Island Gyal’, Kalpee says “I wanted this song to feel nostalgic, light and fun, ‘cause that’s what the islands remind me of. The music feels so much like home, blending genres like calypso and dancehall together and incorporating instruments like steel pan and brass, that remind me of Trini carnival.” He explains how the track came to be, “The idea for the song started in Barbados but I knew I had to go back home to Trinidad, to capture the energy I thought was necessary for the track. As I landed in Trini, I linked up with my bro, Tano, who at the time had recently built his studio. I hadn’t seen him since before Covid happened, so I played him the idea of ‘Island Gyal’ and we immediately just started collaborating, vibing, talking about memories, about carnival and how sad it was that didn’t happen and I think that was the inspiration that helped us finish the song.”
As we await the release of Kalpee’s debut album later this year, and as he continues to develop his New Calypso style and pursue his projects with conscious enthusiasm, this artist is firmly establishing himself as one to watch.
