Finding fertile ground across social media, from clips caught at festivals and grotty raves to non-stop calls for the remix to be released, Locked On/ RCA have finally delivered the goods (after what was probably a lot of licensing issues) and dropped Mixtress and Pete Cannon’s edit of The Streets’ track ‘Blinded By The Lights’. It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated releases in the online sphere right now, and if you haven’t heard to it already, trust us it’s a pure unadulterated banger…
If you’ve been at any festivals this summer you’re likely to have been entranced by the tracks breakdown, original chord stabs and vocals sit perfectly over a deep bassline, before the song descends into thunderous jungle breaks that cause pure euphoric mayhem. Both artists Mixtress and Pete Cannon, represent two of the UK’s finest when it comes to the new wave of modern jungle, pioneered by the likes of Sherelle and Nia Archives. (On a side note, it’s very welcome to see a genre where three of the biggest modern names are female.)
There’s not much else to say about this one other than, we’ll have it on repeat for the next few months and god forbid anyone gives us access to their AUX. Speaking on the new single, Mixtress explains – “This track was made in between digging through Pete’s record collection, chatting breeze and snacking on baked goods from the shop across the road. It represents us perfectly: a whimsical and high-energy take on a timeless classic, that gets both the old and new heads feeling nostalgic.”
