‘Cellusion’ – the fashion dance performance.

Mona Cordes, a London-based fashion print designer, displays her latest collection, dubbed ‘Cellusion.’ Her art is tangible manifestations of multi-coloured kaleidoscope perceptions. She expresses political and ecological issues through bold declarations through the use of colour, print, and topic selection.

Mona provides sustainable high-end, genderless clothes for advocates for community cohesion. Her art focuses on narrative, with themes of obscurity and disobedience. The focus of ‘Cellusion’ is bacteria and other micro-living creatures and their interactions with one another. The term is made out of the words cells and cohesiveness.

Each look belongs to a different bacteria and is matched with a natural environment aspect that humans can perceive without a microscope. The collection investigates how diverse bacteria may be both harmful and beneficial to humans and the environment. The performance’s movements demonstrate how the bacteria move and how sociable and active they are with one another.

Mona and her team comment, “Having explained their connections the bacteria are working with one another and keeping our planet together. As a collective, we want to showcase with all forces how important bacteria are and how important the collision are and how we are made of cells ourselves and have bacteria help us grow, live, eat, etc. The performance aspect and having clothes tell a story through music, movements and hair and makeup and light is a strong collective idea.

The 8 main looks are based of the combinations: Roseobacteria X plankton, Chloroflexi X Seabed Lillies, Saroma X Ptotoza, Myxobacteria X Slugs X Worms, Cyanobacteria X Coral, Paenibaccilus X Funghi X Moss Sponge, Deinoccus X Ghost Bacteria Creaturemyxobacteria, Aquificae X Nudibranchs.

Each of the looks and dancers are showcasing their characteristics. Each one belongs to one bacteria and is paired with an element in the natural environment which we can see by eye and without a microscope.

‘CELLUSION’ investigates how various bacteria may be both harmful and beneficial to humans and the environment. The performance’s movements demonstrate how the bacteria move and how sociable and active they are with one another. Paenibaccilus and Myxobacteria are soil bacteria that interact with one another. Paenibaccilus promotes plant development, acts as a bio-fertilizer, and can inhibit the growth of dangerous fungi. Myxobacteria is a slime bacteria, hence it is associated with slugs. It feeds on other microorganisms and lives in swarms, and so on.
