Mura Masa’s ‘Local’ Tour Brings the Party to Blackpool

On June 19th, Grammy-winning producer Mura Masa brings something different to Blackpool: not your regular night out, but a night rooted in community, curated by people who live and breathe the local scene. His new grassroots tour, Local, is heading to Bootleg Social for a one-off night celebrating what’s already here – homegrown talent.

The concept behind Local is refreshingly simple: amplify the people and places that often get left out of the bigger music conversation, “I’ve been looking for a while for a way to put opportunity, money and focus into the hands of artists and communities that need it,” Mura Masa explained on his socials. “So me and Relentless came up with Local, a series of club nights and surrounding celebrations supporting and spotlighting underrepresented curators, artists and venues in some often overlooked places in England.”

Blackpool’s very own Bootleg Social, a trusted mainstay of the town’s creative scene since 2014, will be the first stop on the tour. DJ and Balamii regular Mia Lily steers the selection, curating a lineup that includes D-Foc, Pacemaker, and Hometones, with Mura Masa closing the night behind the decks. Intimate, affordable (£5 tickets), and free from the usual posturing, a club built for the people who show up week in, week out. Plenty of space to cut shapes with the 400-person capacity.

The tour will also hit Stockton-on-Tees and Bradford, each one led by a different domestic scene figure (Boo and ZMARAKS, respectively). The idea isn’t to “discover the next big thing,” but to highlight what’s already happening, the DIY ecosystems that exist outside of London, Manchester or Glasgow. Think youth clubs, pubs, converted backrooms, wherever creatives are making things happen without waiting for permission.

This gorilla mindset is what Broke Magazine is all about – underground innovation and equal access to opportunities. “It’s a way of celebrating scenes outside of the usual major cities,” he says, “and of supporting people who are keeping their communities thriving with their amazing work. As well as a chance for me to get on some lineups with a few neighbourhood legends.”

After the tour, Local will live on digitally through a zine curated by Mura Masa and designed by creative studio Toothgrinder, documenting the artists, communities, and stories that brought it to life. There’s also an opportunity for mentorship through Relentless’ Freeform Forum platform to help early-stage artists navigate an industry that doesn’t always make space for them.

And on June 19th, Blackpool gets to show exactly what it’s all about.
