Renowned London-based LGBTQ+ visual artist and fashion designer Olli Hull has launched his latest collection, “Somethings Old, Somethings New,” challenging conventional fashion norms and embracing sustainability.
Olli’s distinctive creations seamlessly merge artistry with eco-consciousness, inviting wearers to explore self-expression and societal critique. Drawing from his personal narrative of gender and identity, Olli revitalizes discarded garments, hand-painting each piece with meticulous care, emphasizing authenticity and creativity.
“This collection unites my older and more recent work, weaving together continuity and innovation,” he explains. “It’s about reinterpreting and reinventing.”
A highlight of the collection is the revisited wedding dresses from Olli’s 2021 ‘Act Normal’ exhibition. These revamped garments challenge traditional notions of love and matrimony, advocating for inclusivity and authenticity.
“The wedding dress symbolizes outdated traditions that perpetuate unsustainable practices,” states Olli. “Reworking these dresses is about reclaiming symbols of exclusion and transforming them into symbols of acceptance.”
In addition to the iconic wedding dresses, the collection features a curated selection of unfinished pieces from the past four years, alongside upcycled accessories such as shoes, sunglasses, and bags, embodying his commitment to sustainability and rebellion.
With “Somethings Old, Somethings New,” Olli prompts a reimagining of fashion as a platform for social commentary and personal expression. His designs blur the lines between art and fashion, advocating for a more inclusive and vibrant future.
Olli Hull’s latest collection challenges the status quo, embracing transformation and self-expression in a world hungry for authenticity and change.
