Queer Nightlife: A Celebration of Diversity and Glamour Through The Lens Of Aimee Mcghee

Capturing the self-expressive essence of London’s queer nightlife scene, Aimee Mcghee’s newest photography project, which exhibited at Hoxton’s Art’otel last Friday, delves into the dynamic clubs, attendees and dance floors where you’ll find freedom in its rawest form.

“This project holds a special place in my heart as it captures the vibrant, creative, and inclusive spirit of queer nightlife, a community that thrives on self-expression and resilience. The clubs and club nights I have worked for include Bombshell Club, Feel It, U Ok Hun, The Divine, House of Trash, Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, Heaven Nightclub, Ku Bar, Dalston Superstore, The Glory, Studland, and Ministry of Pride”

Highlighting the importance of preserving and celebrating these vital safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community, this series offers a unique peek into the vibrant characters and inclusive atmosphere that make up this alluring scene, dispelling the myth that queer clubs are constantly closing and instead shedding light on the thriving, energy-filled spaces throughout London, from Bimini Bon-Boulash’s House of Trash to Jodie Harsh and Clayton Wright’s ‘Feel It’ events.

“I portray a world where these spaces are flourishing. By bringing hyper-glamour to the images and enhancing my subjects’ best features, I celebrate the unique beauty and diversity of the people who make up this vibrant scene. Each photograph tells a story, showcasing the resilience, creativity, and charisma of the individuals who bring queer nightlife to life.”
