Rosie Darling is a Los Angeles-based artist who was born in Boston and is simply this year’s sweetheart. She couldn’t be mistaken for anybody else. She’s calm confident, exuberantly enthusiastic, and infinitely inventive. Today, Rosie releases her new track “Fucked Up Summer,” coupled with an exciting music video.
“Fucked Up Summer” begins with beautiful acoustic guitar before whirling into a glitchy pounding. “I definitely write from real emotions,” she observes. “There are a lot of specific lyrics. The song reveals more and more as it goes on. It’s meant to be conversational and poetic. When you listen to one of my songs, I want youto feel like you’re going to see a movie. I met Halsey in Whole Foods, and I was super inspired by meeting her. She followed me on Instagram and said I could send her music. I was on such a high I wanted to lean into her style. It was a huge inspiration for ‘Fucked Up Summer’.”
She is very aware of herself and the world around her, and she continues to voice her opinion with clarity and intensity on her sophomore EP ‘Golden Age,’ which will be released in August. Intense emotional growth is sometimes the finest fuel for a musician’s creative fire, and Rosie Darling’s first EP Coping surely turns anguish into beauty.
Her debut single and artist statement, “Coping,” has received over 40 million combined listens, ranking on 14 different Spotify Viral 50 lists and reaching the Top 20 on the Global Viral Chart. “Coping” is a time capsule that captures the messy side of love and friendship, from heartache and loneliness to joyful revelry. It’s a personal look into Rosie’s life wrapped in emotional indie-pop. In the loneliness of her twenties, in solitude, and in an increasingly computerised environment, EP ‘Golden Age’ catches tremendous, pent-up sensations from the previous two years and pairs them with her distinctive flowing melodies and gut-wrenching lyrics.
Rosie is the type of outlier who propels pop music ahead by unwaveringly embracing her own artistic instincts and following them to unparalleled heights. “I really believe less is more,” she exclaims. “I let the music speak for itself as the lyrics say something important for me. I don’t do things to get quick validation or views. If your art is authentic, it will reach its potential without having to think about it. I’m telling stories and putting myself into the lyrics.”
