In the ever-evolving landscape of electronic music, London-based duo Decades, comprising Anna Straker and Coldabank, have been carving out their unique niche. Known for their hypnotic bangers that seamlessly blend vintage synths with euphoric club beats, Decades has been a firm fixture on the London club scene. Their latest release, a remix package of their track “Want Me Back,” featuring the talents of Storm Mollison and Yesca, is set to make waves in the late summer dance-floor circuit.
Already making waves of her own, Storm Mollison has been establishing herself as a rising star in the UK electronic music scene. This summer, she made her Fabric debut, playing an electrifying all-night-long set in room 3, leaving an indelible mark on the iconic London club. She also graced the stage at the Junction 2 Festival and is now gearing up for an appearance at Albania’s ION Festival. With this impressive resume, her take on Decades’ emotive breaks-mover, “Want Me Back,” is highly anticipated.
Storm Mollison’s remix injects a solid 4/4 house rhythm into the original track, transforming it into a stylish and danceable masterpiece. Her rendition breathes new life into Decades’ epic broken beat odyssey, infusing it with no-nonsense dance floor rhythms and euphoric synth arpeggios. Storm herself expresses her excitement for the project, saying, “I’m such a big fan of Decades and the original track that when they asked me to remix ‘Want Me Back,’ I knew I’d be getting some ridiculous stems to work with. It was incredibly fun creating a more 4×4-driven club version that could slip right into my sets.”
On the flip side of this remix package, Glasgow resident and Y4 Collective founder Yesca takes the reins, offering a heady and sublime augmented house edit of “Want Me Back.” Yesca’s interpretation perfectly complements the emotive brilliance of the original, creating a late-night, late-summer dance-floor alchemy. He shares his thoughts on the remix, saying, “I figured I’d give this track a moody twist, glitching Anna’s vocals into a hot mess of emotion and layering it over a loopy, hypnotic bassline and drum pattern. And to make the most of Decades’ production skills, I warped the lead arp from the original stems, which ties it all together nicely.”
Decades themselves are thrilled with the outcome of these remixes. They express their happiness in unleashing these reworks, stating, “We’re really happy to be unleashing two stunning reworks of ‘Want Me Back’! Our friend and collaborator Storm Mollison has come through with a 4×4 Lo-fi house stomper of a version, whilst label-mate Yesca has created a dubbed-out, trippy groove perfect for after-hours. Both give an exciting twist on our original song and are perfect for late summer DJ sets.”
The story of Decades is one of lockdown creativity, friendship, and artistic synergy. Best friends and artists Anna Straker and Joachim Walker came together during a chance meeting at a party. Their shared love for vintage synths and euphoric club music led them to break out of familiar pop formulas. The result is a fusion of their rich experiences as producers and live performers, resulting in heartfelt, hypnotic bangers that vibrate with the warmth of kindred spirits.
With the release of these captivating remixes, Decades continues to showcase their innovative approach to electronic music, making them an act to watch as they take their place in the forefront of London’s electronic music scene.
