T label made their elegant and dazzling catwalk debut at London Fashion Week last weekend. Famed for their beloved glove-like bras, Creative Director Taylor-Bea Gordon continues to prove she is not a one-trick pony, as if anyone ever had a doubt.
The SS24 Collection, lovingly named ‘A Shell for a Human’ presents a sexy and romantic series of looks, with draped pearl and satin, sheer organza, and a simple yet statement pencil skirt with headline ‘FASHION WEEK GIVES ME ANXIETY’.
‘A Shell for a Human’ explores sensitivity and insecurity, just as much as it looks at power and sexuality – not one of these feelings is exclusive to another and it’s a poignant and powerful message that inspires audiences to carry it with them through the current season, and beyond.
TBG says, “The show explores the human body as a shell and what my shell means to me. After having my first anxiety attack last October before our Paris show, I found the sensitivity of our bodies and how precious they are fascinating. I wanted to use the opportunity of showing this collection to be more honest about what it means to be a self-funded designer in this industry and the financial pressures of taking part in fashion week with small amounts of resources”.
In recent years we’ve seen an ever-growing popularity in styling underwear as outerwear and T Label have captured this for a new generation of trendsetters. The intimate Sunday night show, held in East London’s Clapton, invited a range of models to strut down the runway in looks that ranged from structured tulle dresses and barely-there handmade beaded creations to vase-shaped, florally adorned clutches. As ever, T label favour borrowed, ethically sourced and sustainable textiles, with a range of dead-stock and one-time designer materials weaving their way into the SS24 offering.
The luxe collection follows a primarily monochromatic colour palette, with an occasional flash of teal, bronze and ruby red jewel tones. In another spectacular move by the T Label team, the catwalk included one model, sporting beautiful black lace, taking place behind the camera, shooting performative portraits of the cast as they posed solo, front and centre of the white-walled hall. This personal touch only added to the empowering energy conjured at the SS24 showing.
‘A Shell for a Human’ truly stunned at LFW, there wasn’t a trick missed. The distinct designs and refreshing creative choices continue to make the brand, and Taylor-Bea Gordon, ones to watch. It’s clear that T Label is deservedly adored, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more from the independent label in the coming months and years.
