Aggressive hyper-rave meets industrial ballroom in the latest EP from composer & producer Varien, alongside producer Psylla titled “FULL ASSAULT / ALL THAT U WANT”
Varien (aka Nikki) seeks to emphasise parts of Y2K aesthetics, techno-optimism, transhumanism, and a lot of roughness. Everything from The Matrix to Suicide Silence to breakcore/IDM influences Varien’s music.
Psylla is the creation of Aleksi Kiiskinen, who is at the forefront of experimental Nordic music. He deviates from the norm and has received accolades for his mind-bending producing abilities from famous electronic musicians like Disclosure, Baauer, RL Grime, and Mr. Bill.
The EP features girl_irl and Jackie Extreme. Jackie shares: “I’m so used to making songs that provide a shield, whereas this one is the sword; a barrage of frantic neon synths that I knew needed to be a final call to arms. I’m tired of seeing queer people bruised and this is the theme song to throwing those bruises back.”
girl_irl concludes, “I’ve wanted to slowly evolve my sound into something danceable, industrial and cathartic for club spaces for the past few months now – when I was approached to work on this song it felt like a perfect ‘right time and place moment. Psylla and Varien created a vision that immediately resonated with me and a sound that connects our worlds so well!! They’re visionaries who know exactly what they want. I love this track so much and I’m so stoked to be a part.”
