Welcome to Stormzy’s…House Party?

There’s no better way to start off your weekend than a party hosted by Stormzy himself. Last Thursday, my friend Leah and I were lucky enough to attend the official launch of a new event concept, which is reminiscent of the old school American frat parties.

Equipped with a bottle of Sauvignon for the pre-drinks, we made our way to the party, which is situated in the middle of Soho. On the tube we chatted about what we’d do or say if we got the chance to meet Stormzy and Maya Jama. However, we couldn’t even have imagined the amount of influencers, actors and musicians that would be invited into the space that night.

The name of the club concept is House Party (thehouse.party on instagram). Having just started earlier this year, the group has amassed over 30k in instagram followers, including now having had one of Britain’s most well known rappers to host on their opening night. So it’s no wonder that this event attracted such a diverse crowd.

The space was decorated in posters, and furnished like a normal house would be, with each bedroom equipped with beds and desks, as well as the kitchen having cutlery and utensils. The multi level house was a spectacle, with activities ranging from tattoos in the bathroom to karaoke in the master bedroom.

Upon entry, we were greeted at the door by hosts who poured drinks into reusable red tumbler cups for us. The party continued into the first room, which appeared to be a kitchen. I immediately spotted a DJ mixing commercial summer anthems on the kitchen island. The use of the space was incredible, with a dining table and chairs on the side of the makeshift ‘dance floor’ for people who wanted to take a break from the dancing, or enjoy the free pizza being handed out. Even on the rooftop, there was a barbecue, which we had just missed by the time that we’d arrived.

We decided to explore the house further, moving through the kitchen, down the stairs, and into
the basement. This part of the house was filled with even more people than the first room. The vibe here was slightly different, with decks set atop the washing machines at the front of the room, and a table set up for beer pong. In the corner of the room, there was a car in the wall, with the number plate “H5E PAR7Y.” Each part of the house was tailored to a certain vibe, so no matter what you were in the mood for that night, the party had you sorted.

At the door, we were also informed that we’re welcome to look through any wardrobes and cupboards for ‘houseparty’ property, because, who hasn’t stolen a little trinket or so from a house party, right?

The whole ‘American house party’ concept that they aimed for was very well executed, and ultimately, it’s an experience that is quite hard to come by in London. The appeal is definitely there for London youngsters, who are looking for a not-so-average night out, amidst all the standard club nights and bars in Central. Its location is ideal for transport, and the house is absolutely beautiful. So, why not indulge in a house party?
