Tita Lau is a DJ, Record Producer, and Vocalist who represents the tip of the spear for new and intriguing female electronic music talent. She was discovered on the STEREOHYPE YouTube channel during the Covid 19 lockdown in 2020, and she still records DJ sets there regularly.
Tita has accomplished chart success, securing consistent top10 positions on the main chart, including a number one record ‘Disconnected’ with James Hype on Solotoko, as well as #1 spots on Spotify’s ‘Housewerk’ playlist and strong positions on Massive Dance Hits, Friday Cratediggers, and Dance Rising, propelling Tita to being one of the most talked-about breakthrough artists of 2020 / 2021.
Tita’s latest song, ‘Rock & Roll,‘ is a high-energy and catchy tech-house floor filler influenced by Chris Lake – this artist is a funky chick we’re keeping an eye on.
Broke Magazine peeks inside Tita’s closet and chats over her favourite outfits, garments and accessories. We talk about the musician’s fashion, as well as get a feel for the signature Tita aesthetic.
Outfit 1 – Black “gothic” outfit
Explain this outfit & how/why you chose these items together?
I loved this outfit. I was at Miami music week, it was boiling hot and I thought… black vinyl. The vinyl jacket is so fierce, (it’s actually a piece from my ‘What Is Real’ music video), paired with some leather gloves and a 100% recycled chain choker to add a touch of elegance to the whole fit as the boots are wild and are actually my go-to choice of footwear whenever I DJ (the decks are usually too high, I like to see the crowd so platforms are a must for me) It was hot, I was hot, the outfit was hot. I can be a bit more outrageous with outfits when I’m not DJing, I overheat and would have had to take everything off, so this outfit was fun, I enjoyed watching Meduza and keeping all my clothes on lol.
Favourite piece from the fit?
Sunglasses… always.
Where did you wear this?
SLS Miami Music Week, so everyone was wearing cute beach outfits. This was mine.
Outfit 2 – Ripped jeans & white t-shirt
I guess you are ripped jeans kinda gal, what other jean styles are you into?
I love ripped jeans. The more distressed the better. I tend to like an oversized fit when it comes to jeans, I used to wear skinny jeans all the time, but I find them really restrictive, so tend to wear pu leather now if I want that sculpted skin-tight fit.
Where did you wear this outfit?
I was just heading to the mall, so more of a casual fit.
Are you a supreme, skater chic fan?
I like Supreme because there are no boundaries when it comes to fashion, sometimes they have understated pieces, but then they’ll have something wild. I like that. I can relate.
Favourite piece from this fit?
Probably the accessories, I don’t tend to wear my jewellery a lot and also the bold red lip. You can never go wrong with a red lip, just don’t wear it if you plan on kissing someone. I learned the hard way on a date once… when I got home and looked in the mirror, all I saw was a clown staring back at me… the pictures were interesting. Still has a vibe tho.
Outfit 3 – Boss in a cream pantsuit
Wow, this is a power outfit! Will you go through this one and explain where the items are from?
I actually bought this online from Collusion. I don’t tend to shop much online, I usually shop in vintage stores, re-wear items or upcycle them in some way, but I do like to mix old with new and designer with high street, so when I saw this I was like, that’s going straight in my basket! Collusion has cool outfits, I’m really into their stuff right now. Not an ad btw lol. I already knew which glasses and shoes I wanted to pair with it. I was definitely going for the oversized, you’ve reached the final boss vibe.
Explain the socks & sandals? 😉
I’m Asian. This is just a right of passage. My Dad is Hong Kong Chinese and has always worn socks with sandals since forever, just felt right. I absolutely LOVE these sandals, they’re from Gucci and they’re big, super heavy and in your face. I actually bought James (my partner) a pair too so we could do the cute matchy couple thing.
What event did you wear this at?
Literally our friend’s apartment… we were meeting up with lots of awesome DJs who I hadn’t met before, was such a great night.
And your favourite piece from this look?
Again the glasses. They’re vintage Vittorio Foscari, they’re badass, I felt like a 1950s mob boss.
