‘Friend,’ showcases the return of Anglo-French diva Zoey Lily – this single is an alt-pop offering portraying the difficulties of unrequited feelings.
Following her blossoming start to her music career, which included headlining O2 Islington with Academy Music Group, performing a sold-out headline event at The Waiting Room, and being championed as a featured artist by BBC London, Zoey Lily continues to set the bar high for herself.
‘Friend’ is the first single from Zoey’s upcoming EP ‘Too Many Nights,’ which will be released this autumn. It’s a tune full of truth. Zoey’s gentle vocals give a second layer to the track’s expressive undertones and carry through its compassionate message, holding her honesty inside a gloomy cadence and rich melodies. This song, which alluded to the complexities that arise when affections become involved in a friendship, is relatable for many but made more so by Zoey.
In Zoey Lily’s own words, she explains; “I wrote ‘Friend’ about a friendship that slowly started falling apart when love got involved because I couldn’t return the kind of love my friend was looking for in me.”
Zoey Lily has released a music video to accompany the release of ‘Friend.’ As she navigates this love tale, Zoey flips through her old photobook in a Parisian-style apartment. Not only is Zoey the driving force behind her music, but she also created, co-directed, and edited the music video for ‘Friend.’
Talking about the music video, Zoey Lily explains; “‘Friend’ is my first ever music video. I had the vision for the music video in my head ever since writing the song but it took me months to prep everything for the shoot. I wanted viewers to really get a sense of my personality and artistic direction so I wrote the treatment, co-directed and edited it myself taking inspiration from short films and a Parisian aesthetic which also correlates to the French lyrics in the song.”
