Alt-R&B newcomer IMVN shares her debut EP FAZE

IMVN, a newbie from North West London, has released her much-awaited first EP FAZE today. This 4-track drama, which includes current songs ‘DTB’ and ‘The Door,’ talks about difficult relationships while sonically and narratively inferring both meanings of the word (to disturb someone and a certain period of time). IMVN’s downtempo, left-field combination of R&B and techno has earned recognition from The Line of Best Fit, Crack, Notion, Clash, GRM Daily, and others since the release of the first track earlier this Spring, speaking volumes about the potential of this intriguing new artist on the scene.

As enticing as she is relatable, IMVN today also presents the project’s visual component, which is divided into four segments to symbolise each tune on the EP. Beginning with “8 Hours,” we are introduced to IMVN and the universe she has created, ‘FAZE.’ In the intimacy of her bedroom, she sees an aesthetic compilation/projection of her life. In “The Door,” IMVN takes command of her tale. She embeds her own story inside the film by exploring the area, making her way to the control station, and starting to code.

“Fall” follows and ushers in a key time in which all facades crumble. IMVN’s lyrics are projected onto her flesh – a physical representation of how we wear our words – with no set and little lighting. Finally, as she goes towards a flaming fire in the distance, “DTB” represents rebirth. She marches purposefully away from her previous pain and towards the new chapter of her life.

Speaking on the EP and film, IMVN says: “FAZE has been 5 years in the making. In a world oversaturated by content, I rely on ‘feeling’ above all else. This project has taught me so much of what it means to be open; to feel, and I wish for others to reflect on their journeys and open up the same way.”

Sonically influenced by Kate Bush, Mariah Carey, and RY X, IMVN was encouraged by her mother to compose music over the summer holidays from an early age. She cultivated her capacity to write honestly and relatably through these early periods of reflection and devotion to her talent. At 21 years old and a former dance student, IMVN is most affected by the unpredictability of life, with her music and images portraying a blend of the world around us that is always growing. IMVN is a meticulous and deliberate artist, and everything she makes is done with the highest care and consideration.
