Broke’s Big F*ck Off Festival Guide: London Edition

London locals, it’s hot, might be too hot, but the vibes are back after a (way too) long winter hibernation, and so are we with the first phase of our 2024 festival guides starting with our home turf, London Town (it’d be rude not to). From edge-of-the-city wobs to Ibiza-like raves in its steamy centre, find the creme de la creme of Broke festival culture below…

GALA

WHEN – 24TH-26th May

LINEUP – CHAOS IN THE CBD, JOY ORBISON, SHERELLE, JOSH CAFFÉ, HORSE MEAT DISCO, PEACH & MORE

Who can we endlessly count on to kick off London’s fezzi season in style? None other than South London’s GALA festival, returning and ‘Back In Bloom’ at their base in Peckham Rye Park for a 9th year of cultivated genre-blending, brought to you by an array of artists and promotors; from local, up-and-coming talents to esteemed pioneers of their field. Combining sounds of Soul, Jazz, Hip-hop and a plethora of Electronic and Dance subgenres, GALA radiates a restorative and revitalising spirit of community and culture – reflected in their multifarious lineup, diverse range of food vendors, and close attention to artistic detail across the site and set design.

FIELD DAY

WHEN – 24TH AUGUST

LINEUP – CHARLOTTE DE WITTE, BRUTALISMUS 3000, HORSEGIIRL, MURA MASA, SHY GIRL, KETTAMA & MORE

One look at Field Day’s 2024 lineup and we were sold, between the concoction of hardcore, techno and house artists set to gather for a single day of sun (we can hope), sounds and seshing in Victoria Park, alongside a live DJ set from Mura Masa thrown into the mix and it’s safe to say they’ve outdone themselves. We don’t want to hedge our bets too early, but they’re a strong contender for Broke’s ‘Top-Rated London Festival Of 2024’…

WATERWORKS

WHEN – 14TH SEPTEMBER

LINEUP – INTERPLANETARY CRIMINAL, ROSS FROM FRIENDS, SICARIA, DR BANANA, MICHELLE MANETTI, OTIK & MORE

We’ve got a lot of time for Waterworks, they don’t fuck around with headliners, focus on a lineup of fresh electronic music pioneers and nestle the event in the immersive space of Cedar Woodland. Its ethos, rooted in empowering people to express themselves authentically and fighting the climate emergency, stresses one element of festivals we often forget to celebrate, their capacity to bring people together and become agents for change.

PROJECT 6

WHEN – 24TH MAY

LINEUP – ELIZA ROSE, DJ BORING, DJ SEINFELD, DJ STINGRAY 313, KILIMANJARO, MILEY SERIOUS, SIM0NE, PHONE TRAXX, DJ LOVE & MORE

Mark your calendars for London’s hottest ticket this summer, Project 6; taking place in the heart of the city. Established as a cultural cornerstone, this festival has earned its stripes for curating a lineup that pushes boundaries, leading the headline, in charge, is none other than Nines, the influential rapper who’s carved his own path in the UK scene; from Church Road to Hollywood. Project 6 commits to R&B, house, jungle, drum and bass, rap, grime, and more…

JUNCTION 2

WHEN – 26TH-28TH JULY

LINEUP – HONEY DIJON, JOY (ANONYMOUS), KILIMANJARO, DANIEL AVERY, HAAI, JEFF MILLS, LSDXOXO, OTIK, VTSS, ANOTR, B.LOVE, BARRY CAN’T SWIM, ELIZA ROSE, SALUTE, SAOIRSE & MORE

For the hardcore beat fans and foot tappers, Junction 2 is the slick of the slick when it comes to London festivals. It embodies clear and crisp music packed between the skyscrapers at its usual location of Boston Manor Park. This year they they have a plethora of different sounds included on the lineup with spotlight acts like our Mother Honey Dijon, Eliza Rose, VTSS, LSDXOXO – and that only just touches the sides.

MIGHTY HOOPLA

WHEN – 1ST-2ND JUNE

LINEUP -EATS EVERYTHING, GIRLS DON’T SYNC, MICHELLE MANETTI, EVE, HUNS N ROSES, JODIE HARSH, SHAZNAY LEWIS & MORE

Queer extravaganza Mighty Hoopla will be going off at its usual South London home, Brockwell Park. Of course we’ll be there for a full-on-fabulous and nostalgic weekend, Nelly Furtado, En Vogue and Jessie Ware are headlining. Plus so many favs from Girls Don’t Sync to Huns n Roses and Jodie Harsh… such a mixed bag ensures a gorgeous weekend of self expression for anyone and everyone, we hope to see a load of Brokerz embracing their inner (or outer) Hun at the start of next month.

WIDE AWAKE

WHEN – 25TH MAY

LINEUP – BEN UFO, ALICE GLASS, EARTHEATER, HELENA HAUFF & MORE

Coming up fast is Wide Awake Festival, held in Brockwell Park. This year they shake things up with post-punk group Dry Cleaning, experimental artist Yeule and synth-pop icon Johnny Jewel among others. Also on this year’s roster are established legends like Lawrence Hayward and emerging innovators like Lambrini Girls. If you didn’t know already, Wide Awake commits to promoting leftfield indie, post-punk, electronica, and techno and prides itself on promoting gender equality and sustainability in the music industry. 

BODY MOVEMENTS

WHEN – 25TH AUGUST

LINEUP – CONFIDENCE MAN, JOSH CAFFÉ, LOCKHART, LSDXOXO, MANUKA HONEY, PATRICK MASON, PXSSY PALACE, SAOIRSE, SIPPIN’ T, TAAHLIAH AND TASH LC & MORE

Queer kids unite as Body Movements hits London’s summer showdown with its 2024 edition. This queer-centric festival serves as a haven for LGBTQ+ artists to showcase their talents, where exploration of identity is not only embraced but celebrated, and where the essence of queer expression thrives. This year marks a significant milestone for Body Movements as it embarks on a new chapter in its journey—a transition to a new playground in Southwark Park (located right next to our Broke HQ). We eagerly anticipate Body Movement’s dance as it calls us to join in a celebration of diversity.

APE will be taking over Victoria Park across four separate days this summer, and as far as fusion festivals go, this one is considered a delicacy, with (based on the lineup) introspective hip hop, rock and soulful house setting the tone for 2024.

BST HYDE PARK

Rumour has it Stevie Nicks is coming to London this summer! BST is hosting another year of full-throttle musical heaven, but this time with some bucket-list-ticking talents on the lineup. We envision this festival to be the home of nostalgia and community… we will be singing along to ‘Dreams’ all night long. 

AS ONE IN THE PARK

WHEN – 21ST JULY

LINEUP DANNY BEARD, ABSOLUTE, BAGA CHIPZ, HANNAH WANTS

Lighting up London with pure queer vibes is the renowned As One In The Park festival which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community by uniting for a super affordable day of pride, diversity, and inclusive festivities! This year the event has a special focus on supporting local talent and grassroots culture. The festival showcases some of the brightest up-and-coming musical and artistic stars from the London LGBTQ+ scene across 4 curated stages. Rupaul’s Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard headlines alongside Baga Chipz and many more on the Cabaret Stage whilst DJs Hannah Wants and Absolute head up the Main Music Stage. We can’t wait to let our hair down for this one!
