Emily Macrander’s Short Film Titled “deeper still, each night”

Introducing the short film titled “deeper still, each night”, by London-based director Emily Macrander. She wanted to develop a moving image that conveyed the love-hate connection she (and she’s sure others) had with going out, so she based the title on the lyrics of Insomnia by Faithless.

Emily and creative contributor Izabel Rose illustrate that the way you feel the next morning never prevents you from having another night out. “You so easily get trapped in this circle when you’re young and have London’s nightlife at your feet – it’s not necessarily good or bad, it’s just as exhausting as it is fun” she explains.

Emily and Izabel intended the video to convey the experience of rediscovering the nightlife after the pandemic, as one night merges into the next. The nightlife sector has experienced a surge of party-seekers since the repeal of COVID rules, and this does not appear to be changing anytime soon (something adamant in the film).

Emily Macrander is a director based in London who specialises in short-form projects such as music videos, branded content, and short films. WITHOUT WARNING (2021), her screenplay debut, was released across the UK via TAPE Collective and won Lift-First Off’s Time Filmmaker Session.

Her most recent short film RAVE (2022) is currently on the festival circuit and has earned filmmaker nominations in the Directing and Screenwriting categories of the 2022 NYFA. Emily is the creative director of the short film production company House on Fire Productions.
