BUERLANGMA AW23 – “Do It Like A Villain”

The rising Chinese fashion brand Buerlangma presented an AW23 collection titled “Do It Like A Villain” during London Fashion Week. The show was hosted in the Fashion Scout venue, Protein studios in London’s hotspot Shoreditch.

Buerlangma was founded in 2020 by supermodel BoChao Yuan and designer/creative director QiQi Yuan in Beijing. The label has accumulated a lot of popularity by dressing many celebrities like Doja Cat, Beyonće and Ashnikko – and recently received the fashion scout merit award prize.

This latest collection delves into the concept of the villain, who is frequently shown as both beautiful and frightening in films, television plays, stories, and myths from all around the world. This topic reflects China’s contemporary cultural transition, in which young people embrace their uniqueness and inventiveness, challenge the status quo, and push limits in their own unique ways.

QiQi Yuan was inspired by China’s growing youthful culture; the collection comprises a range of masks representing various roles and features of today’s youth. The ready-to-wear items in the showcase included simple designs and attractive processes, as well as the brand’s signature materials like cotton, silk, taffeta, satin, and PU leather. The collection also features resin-printed 3D wearable electronics, emphasising the brand’s commitment to creativity and innovation.

QiQi Yuan says “Being a villain means to question everything considered to be true and to fearlessly challenge the status quo. This is the core of being a villain and what we hope to represent through our designs. Everyone can be a villain before he succeeds, and we hope to encourage the youth to embrace their individuality and creativity in their own unique ways.”

Buerlangma’s ambition with the “Do It Like A Villain” collection was to push traditional fashion’s boundaries and produce something distinctive and indicative of teenage culture. Buerlangma is aiming to establish itself as a major voice in the world of fashion, encouraging originality, creativity, and innovation, with its premiere at London Fashion Week.
